Looking for a business partner – someone to build with and rely on

I have been running my web design business for a number of years now. In that time I have learned a great deal about building websites, working with clients, and navigating the particular challenges of running a small creative business. I have also learned a great deal about myself, including the fact that I work best with a partner.

This post is a direct reach-out. I am looking for a business partner. And I want to be upfront about what that means, what I can offer, and what I am hoping to find.

What the business does

We specialise in WordPress and WooCommerce websites. We have spent 14 years building, designing and optimising sites for small businesses, eCommerce stores and independent retailers. We have developed real expertise in SEO strategy, content architecture, and the kind of considered web design that makes an impact. We know WordPress deeply. And we know how to manipulate WordPress to achieve the whims of our clients or own projects.

We also have a growing interest in the intersection of digital strategy and community-based business. We are passionate about helping small independent businesses build sustainable online presences that reflect their values, serve their communities well, while building income streams.

Why I am looking for a business partner

I am going to be honest about this, because I think honesty is the foundation of any good partnership.

I have a health condition that affects me episodically. There are periods when I am highly productive, creative and capable of doing excellent work. And there are periods when I am unwell and need to step back. This is simply the reality of my situation and I am learning to work with it rather than against it.

What this means practically is that I need a partner who can hold the business steady when I am not at full capacity. Someone who can be the reliable, consistent presence with clients. Someone who takes pride in delivering on commitments and keeping things moving. Someone I can trust with the business as if it were their own. Because in a genuine partnership, it would be.

This is not a small ask. I know that. And I am not looking for someone to take on a burden. I am looking for someone who sees the opportunity here and wants to build something real.

What I bring to the partnership

I bring years of experience in WordPress development and web design. I bring strong strategic thinking — particularly around SEO, content and user experience. I bring existing client relationships and a reputation for thoughtful, considered work. I bring a genuine passion for helping small businesses grow online. And I bring the kind of creative thinking that comes from having built and run businesses across several different industries.

I also bring complete transparency about my situation, which I believe is the only honest way to begin a partnership conversation.

What I am looking for in a partner

I am looking for a business partner with solid website development skills. WordPress and Woocommerce development skills would be great, however, someone who can code in Javascript and PHP would be even better. I am looking for someone who can build and troubleshoot confidently. Experience with SEO, business and/or digital marketing would be a significant advantage.

More important than technical skills, though, is the human side of this. I am looking for someone who is reliable. Someone who follows through. Someone who communicates clearly with clients and colleagues. Someone who can hold a project together when things get complicated, as they often do at some point in web development.

I am also looking for someone who is interested in building a business, not just doing a job. Someone who has opinions about where this could go and wants to be part of shaping that direction.

What a partnership could look like

I am open to different structures depending on the right person and the right conversation. That could mean an equity partnership from the beginning. It could mean a trial period working together on projects before formalising anything. It could mean a gradual transition of responsibility as trust is built. I am not rigid about the structure.

What I know is that the right partnership would allow both of us to do our best work. I tend to operate well in the planning, creative direction and client relationship space. I am looking for someone whose strengths complement rather than duplicate mine — someone who takes satisfaction in the building and delivery side of things. Alternatively, I would love to work with someone who enjoys thinking strategically, and who may have experience in sales and marketing.

If this sounds like you

If you are reading this and something about it resonates — if you are looking for an opportunity that is more than freelance isolation, if you have thought about partnership but not found the right situation, if you value honesty and want to build something with someone who will be straight with you, I would genuinely like to hear from you.

You do not need to have everything figured out. Neither do I. That is rather the point of doing it together.

Get in touch and let’s have a conversation. I would love to talk about whether there might be something worth building here.

Thank you.
