charity this christmas

Donate to a good cause this Christmas

It is that time of year again. Holidays are almost here! I am going on leave from the 19th of December until the 9th of January, however, I will still be available for anything urgent over that period.

Every year, I like to give my clients a present to say thanks for their business, and to spread good will at this lovely time of year. It is too hard to deliver them cupcakes, so this year I have decided to donate to a charity on their behalf.

I have chosen Melbourne City Mission, because they provide exceptional services in the area of homelessness, and it is probably homelessness that gets me in the guts more than any other problem in society.

Today, I saw a young woman in the city. She barely looked 18, and she was sitting in the street with her bedding, and her dog, and I knew then, that I wanted to donate to a homelessness charity this year.

It would always be devastatingly difficult to be homeless, but more so at Christmas, and my heart goes out to the thousands of people who are sleeping rough tonight.

2 % of your annual earnings

I had a friend once, who told me that he donated 2 % of his earnings every year to charity. I thought it was a good principle to live by. We are not all as lucky in the lottery of when and where and who we are born to. Some of us struggle every day, and it shouldn’t be so hard.

I thought about giving to the Big Issue, because they are a great organisation, that give homeless people purpose AND income, through their business, but I researched homelessness in particular and found that 7,000 young people in Victoria have nowhere to call home tonight.

Perhaps you would also consider donating to a cause that is close to your heart for the less fortunate this Christmas.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

This is my gift to my clients this year, and also my gift to you, the people who read my blog, or who engage with me on social media. Merry Christmas. Here’s to a better society.

I hope you have a peaceful and fun holiday season! See you next year!
