information architecture structure

Information architecture process

So begins the fizBITS web design blog. It is exciting to contemplate a website about web design and digital marketing. What sorts of topics would you like me to write about? What would be helpful to you, as a business owner?

I think that design is so much more successful if it is informed by a well thought out process. This semester I have learnt more about information architecture, or the structure of websites, in a subject called Digital Content Management. It is an important factor in user experience design. There are very simple, but sophisticated tools to guide the development of the information model of a website. What’s more, it is a lot of fun to do!

Card sorting exercises for user friendly information architecture

If you and I ever collaborate to produce a website for your business, you will see what I mean! Getting input from people who are characteristic of target consumers, is a great way to develop a sophisticated and user friendly STRUCTURE for a website. After transcribing this information into a site map, we then ask another person from your target audience to check the validity of the information model. This further refines and improves the quality of the site structure. What we end up with, is a highly usable organisation of information throughout the website. It is exciting!

Websites that your clients love to use

I design the graphic look and feel of the website to sit on top of the information architecture. It helps to convey the desired character of your business to your target audience. It is a great way to work, and will hopefully produce websites that your clients love to use.

I have been working on the fizBITS web design website on weekends and in the evenings and I hope that I will be able to launch it soon.

To your success!
